From the reviews
As someone who struggles to feel safe as a queer woman in certain rural areas, I was very grateful to find Kateen and her farm. Kateen was always open to having tough conversations and came to the table with empathy and understanding. I was welcomed with open arms and open hearts.
What a great place! So peaceful. Loved the Jefferson Farm Tour here - definitely coming again to get more yarn and fiber!
Compass Rose Farms is an amazing magical place. Kateen is a very thorough teacher dedicated to the permaculture life. I'm not sure what kind of a grudge the negative reviewers have with CRF, but since they didn't get specific about what their complaints actually were, I'd take them with a grain of salt.
Visted as part of the Jefferson County Garden Tour. Love the way they laid out their gardens. Lots of duck and turkeys roaming around. The fiber mill was very interesting to see how they process the wool to prepare it for spinning.
Getting married at Compass Rose Farms
Compass Rose Farms comes up for weddings — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see it at the time of day you'd actually get married — a barn that glows at golden hour can feel very different at noon, and you'll want to walk the path your guests take from parking to ceremony to reception. Second, bring your real questions: the rain plan (where does the ceremony move?), the catering and bar policy, the music curfew, and exactly what's included with the rental — tables, chairs, setup, and teardown are where quotes quietly diverge. Popular dates at barn venues book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
