From the reviews
As a local wedding photographer, I've been to all the wedding venues in the San Diego area, and Martin Johnson House is one of my favorites. This hidden gem combines a quiet and charming vibe with a dramatic oceanfront view.
I have been the DJ/emcee and officiant for many weddings here. It is absolutely beautiful with views looking over Scripps Pier, La Jolla and the Pacifuc Ocean. There is a large deck area with 2 levels and a lower grass area for the ceremony. Large trees provide shade and look great with up-lights at night.
It's nice, quiet, and beautiful. A good and proper place for occasions like weddings, celebrations, etc. The view is great. The small house looks good and has a nice galley. It's part of UCSD, so be sure to follow UCSD policy.
Cute little bungalow - they hold alot of weddings here. Great view, but it is open to the public and there is a trail that goes right through the grass are so you'll get students, surfers, hikers, etc walking right through the venue. Still worth though in my opinion as it is one of the best locations around
Getting married at Martin Johnson House
Martin Johnson House comes up for weddings — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the tour worth the drive. First, see it at the time of day you'd actually get married — a barn that glows at golden hour can feel very different at noon, and you'll want to walk the path your guests take from parking to ceremony to reception. Second, bring your real questions: the rain plan (where does the ceremony move?), the catering and bar policy, the music curfew, and exactly what's included with the rental — tables, chairs, setup, and teardown are where quotes quietly diverge. Popular dates at barn venues book 12–18 months out, so if the tour feels right, ask what's open in your season before you leave.
Corporate events & private parties at Martin Johnson House
Reviews and the venue's own info mention corporate events, retreats, or private parties at Martin Johnson House — barn venues often have real weekday availability since weddings claim the weekends. A quick call answers the three things that matter: weekday and off-season rates, whether the space works for your headcount and A/V needs, and what catering is allowed. If your event lands on a Friday or Saturday in wedding season, ask early.
